Field Note Fireflies: Wonder and Wisdom
Field Note Fireflies: Wonder and Wisdom
Fireflies have always made me smile.
There is something enchanting about a tiny creature that gets to fly through the forest carrying its own light. They never seem to be in a hurry. They simply appear, flash for a moment, and disappear again, leaving the landscape feeling just a little more magical than before.
I've loved them for as long as I can remember.
Recently, as I began creating a new series of small printable reflections to accompany my felted artwork, I noticed they carried that same feeling. Each one offered only a brief pause, a quiet observation gathered along the path. Before long, they found their own name.
Field Note Fireflies.
These aren't full Field Notes or greeting cards, nor are they meant to explain everything. Instead, they are little sparks of wonder and wisdom. Tiny observations gathered along the path and offered to fellow travelers.
As I sat with the idea, something unexpected happened.
One little firefly seemed to wander off the page and make a home here on my website.
If you've noticed a tiny blinking firefly tucked among the old maps and ivy, you've already met the first Field Note Firefly. It quietly flashes from its little corner, not asking for attention, but simply waiting to be discovered.
That feels fitting somehow.
After all, the most meaningful discoveries in nature are rarely the ones we go looking for. They are the ones that reveal themselves because we slowed down enough to notice.
That has become the heart of these little companions.
Like the fireflies that dance through warm summer evenings, they aren't meant to illuminate the whole path. They simply offer enough light to help us notice what may already be waiting to be seen.
My weekly Field Notes, which I share on my Facebook page, invite us to linger with a larger story. These little Fireflies offer something different. They are quieter moments of reflection that can accompany a felted piece, be tucked inside a journal, slipped into happy mail, placed on a desk, or simply appear when a gentle reminder is needed.
I hope they bring a moment of wonder wherever they land.
And if, while wandering these pages, you happen to catch the soft blink of a tiny firefly, now you'll know why it's here.
It's keeping the light on.
For all of us.
Welcome, Traveler.
